A driver is in a serious condition in hospital after a late night crash on the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway.

The 53-year-old was hurt when his grey BMW one series was in collision with a stationary white MAN lorry near Annan on Sunday night.

Police Scotland said he was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary following the incident, which happened at about 23:10.

It came less than 24 hours after a fatal crash on the A75 near Dumfries in the early hours of Sunday.

A 43-year-old pedestrian was hit by a silver Ford Fiesta between the Lockerbie Road and Edinburgh Road roundabouts at about 03:00. He died at the scene.

The car then crashed into a lorry travelling the opposite direction. The road was closed for more than 19 hours for investigations and road repairs.

PC Callum Kingstree said: "Inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us.

"We would also ask any drivers who were on the road around the time of crash with dash-cam footage to please contact us."
