Hot weather has caused Bristol Waste to alter some collections.

The current spell of hot weather means waste collections in Bristol are being changed this week.

Bristol Waste has said "extreme temperatures" have started having an impact on its bin lorries.

It said the hot weather has affected the "mechanism in our vehicles that crushes plastic and card", cutting the amount of waste that can be collected. It also plans to send its crews out at 05:00 BST to avoid then working in the highest temperatures.

Temperatures were higher than 30C (86F) in some parts of the West of England over the bank holiday weekend, with the hot weather forecast to last until Thursday.

Bristol Waste has advised residents to put their bins and recycling out before 05:00.

A spokesperson for the company added: "If we've not collected your plastic or card by 6pm, please bring your recycling containers in and put them out on your next scheduled collection day."
