Work to start on town's new community hub

Work is due to start on a £4.2m community hub with space for art exhibitions and activities for young people.

Cleator Moor's library and the former credit union building next door will be refurbished and linked, as part of the government's Cleator Moor Town Deal programme.

The town centre work is expected to start on Monday and last for about 14 months.

The project includes building a cafe annex and work to refurbish the Town Square.

Cumberland Council, which is leading the project, said the Friday market and mobile banking service will be moved to the car park in front of the Cleator Moor Civic Hall during the work.

From 7 September the bus stop will also be suspended and moved further along the road.

The project is one of four phases of the wider £22.5m plan for Cleator Moor funded by the government's Towns Fund.

Additional funding of £475,000 was given from the Sellafield Impact Investment Fund and £25,000 from Cleator Moor Town Council.
