Heat alert for South West raised to amber
Weather Watchers/WendyFThe UK Health Security Agency has upgraded the heat health alert for south-west England to amber from Tuesday to Friday.
It warned significant impacts were likely across social and health care services due to the high temperatures.
Forecasters said heat would start to develop from Tuesday and then intensify on Thursday or Friday with no substantial rain. Temperatures are forecast to reach 30C (86F) in parts of the region on Thursday.
Temperatures are also set to rise in the Channel Islands with 34C (93F) forecast for Jersey on Thursday.
The Met Office's deputy chief forecaster, Mike Silverstone, said: "Humidity levels are also expected to increase through the week, which may make conditions feel more uncomfortable, particularly overnight."
The amber heat alert comes after a drought was declared for south-west England at the end of July and a hosepipe ban implemented by South West Water for most of its customers from 8 August.
South West Water said the ban was due to significantly below average rainfall and high demand on supplies, and all customers in Devon, Cornwall, parts of Dorset and Somerset and the Isles of Scilly should not use hosepipes for certain activities.
