Plans to regenerate the pavilion at Trent Bridge have been submitted in a bid to ensure Test cricket will continue to be held in Nottingham.

Rushcliffe Borough Council has received plans to partially demolish and extend the Members' Pavilion.

In its application, Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club said the development was needed to keep up with the evolving game.

Councillors will consider plans before deciding whether to grant permission.

In papers submitted to the council, the club said the future of Test cricket match allocations for 2025-2031 could potentially be at risk if they did not make the upgrades.

Club officials said the current pavilion had "long failed" to provide adequate facilities.

The plans set out ambitions to upgrade player and officials facilities, as well as improve accessibility, to meet requirements set out by the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Papers show the original pavilion, dating back to the 1880s, would experience "less than substantial harm" during the demolition, which would remove much of the more modern three-storey building to the rear of the building.

It would be replaced by a six-storey structure, which would provide the space for unisex changing spaces and an ability to accommodate multiple teams during double-header matchdays.
