Trees need felling to repair wall, says council
LDRSEighteen protected trees in need to be felled in order to repair a "deteriorating" wall along a busy road, officials have said.
Bradford Council has submitted an application to remove the trees, which it said are putting pressure on a retaining wall on Baildon Road, near Ferniehurst Dell.
Work is needed to repair the wall to prevent it from collapsing into the road, which is one of the main routes into Baildon, council officers said.
"A recent inspection of the wall indicates that the deteriorating condition of the wall is being caused by the proximity of large trees and their roots above it," the application states.
"The trees are exerting pressure on the wall, causing the condition of the wall to deteriorate.
"Unfortunately, remedial works to reconstruct the wall are not feasible without the trees being removed from immediately above the wall."
The trees are currently protected by Tree Preservation Orders, which are made by a local authority to protect specific trees or woodlands in the interests of amenity.
A decision on the application is expected in June, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
