Taxi driver jailed for sex assaults on women

A taxi driver has been jailed after taking a woman to a secluded location and sexually assaulting her instead of driving her home.

Abdulhamid Alammar, 35, from St Leonards, East Sussex, was found guilty in March of sexual assault and causing a person to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity in an attack in November 2024.

The offences came to light while officers were investigating a separate sex assault, reported in April 2025, by another woman in Hastings.

At Lewes Crown Court, Alammar was sentenced to three years imprisonment and a decade-long sexual harm prevention order for both offences.

The court had heard that in the 2024 attack, a woman in her 30s was collected by Alammar after booking a taxi home from a friend's house.

Instead of driving her to her requested destination, he drove her to a secluded location and sexually assaulted her.

When Alammar was arrested and charged, he was already remanded in custody charged with the April 2025 allegations, police said.

He faced trial over the April offences in October 2025, and was convicted of sexual assault but acquitted of rape and sexual assault by penetration.

He remained remanded in custody pending trial for the November 2024 offences.

On Tuesday, Alammar received one year in prison for the 2024 sexual assaults and two years for those in 2025.

He must also pay a victim surcharge of £228 and comply with the notification requirements of the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Sussex Police's Det Con Christina Bales previously said: "These were serious and predatory offences committed against women who should have felt safe.

"I would like to commend the victims for their courage in coming forward and supporting the investigation."
