Bungalow fire started on purpose, says fire service

Police are appealing for information about the cause of the fire

A blaze at a bungalow is believed to have been arson, a fire service said.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the unoccupied building on Northampton Road, Rushden, at about 14:20 BST on Saturday.

Six crews were there at the height of the blaze, which had been largely extinguished by 18:30. Northamptonshire Police also attended and remained at the scene overnight.

In a statement, the fire service said an initial investigation found the fire was thought "to have been started deliberately, with further investigations to follow".

Anyone with information is asked to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101.

Update 25 August: This article originally stated that the property was derelict as this was reported to us by Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue. We have since amended this to state that it was unoccupied and not derelict after clarification from the fire service.
