Murder-accused in court after traveller site shooting
FacebookA 35-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murder after a fatal shooting at a travellers' site.
Jimmy Ward, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene in Calcutt, near Cricklade in Wiltshire, after a gun attack on Sunday morning, Swindon Magistrates' Court heard.
Shane Porter is accused of murder and being in possession of shotgun without a certificate. He appeared earlier by video-link at the magistrates court with his father Eddie Porter, 74, and Tammy Brown, 42, who are accused of assisting an offender.
No pleas were entered, and all three were remanded in custody to appear before Bristol Crown Court on Friday.
Prosecutor Keith Ballinger told the court: "There was an incident at the travellers' site at the weekend where it is alleged Shane Porter has shot and killed Mr Ward."
It is alleged that following the incident, Eddie Porter and Brown drove from Luton to Swindon, the court heard.
Firearms officers stopped the car they were travelling in shortly after it left the M4 at the Hungerford junction on Tuesday.
The court heard a shotgun, believed to have been used in the fatal incident, had been recovered.
A cordon remains at the travellers' site which is likely to be in place over the coming days.
Previously, Det Ch Insp Phil Walker said: "I'd like to express again my thanks to the local community for their patience and support.
"I appreciate the significant concern this incident has generated, so please consider speaking with officers about any information or concerns you may have."
A video, seen by the BBC, was posted on social media on Tuesday which showed Mr Ward pictured on a screen in Times Square, in New York, as a tribute.
