Plans have been submitted for an egg production unit in Holderness, East Yorkshire, which would house up to 32,000 hens.

Cattle Holderness, part of Ottringham-based Buckle Farms, wants to build on land to the north-west of Buzzards Nest, Burton Pidsea.

The plans include an egg production building, an egg packing and storage building, four feed bins and a manure elevator.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will decide whether to approve the plans at a later date.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, birds would be kept on site for 70 weeks. At the end of each cycle, they would be replaced with a new flock. Between flocks, the building would be cleaned.

The application states that Cattle Holderness has "existing operational experience of livestock enterprise", with a number of pig breeding and fishing sites in the area.
