Young people have co-produced and voiced an animation to help others to better understand sensory differences.

The Senses at School: Helping Me Grow film aims to raise awareness in schools across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire to create a more inclusive learning environment.

It has been developed by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust as part of the national Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools (PINS) programme.

Sally Ward, from the trust, said: "This project has been shaped by the voices of young people from the very beginning."

"Their insights, experiences and creativity have helped us develop a resource that we hope will make a real difference in schools," she added.

PINS is a national scheme that aims to improve support for neurodivergent children and young people in mainstream education.

According to the trust, sensory processing differences can present differently at home and school, with each child having a different set of difficulties.

As part of the animation, one local pupil voices what it feels like to be overwhelmed.

He says: "I don't know why other kids can ignore that stuff, I just know that I can't."

The trust said the animation had already been shared across the local area and had received positive feedback from schools as well as parents and carers.

It is part of a range of online resources that any school can access.
