The last of several grants needed to buy land for the building of 70 homes have been approved.

The States of Guernsey said the £10.7m funding has come through the Affordable Housing Development Programme and will be used by the Guernsey Housing Association (GHA) to secure the former CI Tyres Yard site.

GHA said it was "incredibly proud" to be delivering the project of "affordable" one and two-bed properties at the site, which will eventually be known as Court Falaise.

The Policy and Resources Committee said it was "excited" for the housebuilding to begin and said the plans, which were approved on Tuesday, "look fantastic".

"I remember when the site was first bought and talking about the number of new affordable homes it would provide," said Lindsay de Sausmarez, president of the committee.

"Seventy far exceeds what we then thought possible, so this is great news for the island."

GHA said it was "delighted to have reached this milestone".

"We are incredibly proud to be delivering Court Falaise, which will provide 70 much-needed affordable homes for Guernsey," said Lisa de Kooker, chief operating officer at GHA.

"Reaching this point has required detailed planning and a great deal of hard work by a number of people."
