Plans for 70 homes at Guernsey's former CI Tyres Yard site have been approved by the Committee for Housing and the Policy & Resources.

The Guernsey Housing Association (GHA) said the development, now officially named Court Falaise, represented a "significant step" towards bringing the former industrial site back into use for housing.

The approval meant the affordable housing project could move forward into construction after the completion of essential cliff stabilisation works earlier this year, project bosses said.

The GHA added the development had been designed to address identified needs for smaller affordable housing options, as set out in the States Strategic Housing Indicator.

GHA chief operating officer Lisa de Kooker said: "Court Falaise is about more than building new homes.

"It is about making better use of land, supporting islanders who need affordable housing and creating a development that will deliver lasting value."

"This is a complex site that required careful planning, collaboration and investment to reach this stage.

"Developments of this scale do not happen overnight, so reaching this point and moving into construction is a significant milestone for everyone involved.

"We are incredibly proud to be delivering 70 much-needed homes for the island. Court Falaise will make a meaningful contribution to meeting Guernsey's housing needs and we are excited to see this carefully planned development become a reality."
