Bust unveiled to honour music promoter
BBCA bronze bust has been unveiled as a tribute to a well-known Stoke-on-Trent music promoter.
Mike Lloyd died in December at the age of 82 while travelling home from the United States.
He ran the Music Mania record store in Hanley and was made an OBE in 2022 for his services to classical music and for his role as chief executive of Stoke-on-Trent Classics, which organises orchestral concerts.
The bronze bust, funded by donations, was unveiled at Hanley's Victoria Hall to honour the work he did for music and entertainment in the city.
In 2023 Lloyd, who was born in Walsall, was made an honorary doctor of arts by what was then Staffordshire University, for his contributions in the field of music, culture and entertainment.
He went on to be made an honorary freeman of Stoke-on-Trent in 2025, by the city council, for "an exceptional commitment to enriching the cultural and musical landscape of Stoke-on-Trent."
Dave Shingler from Music Mania said: "The thing with Mike is he was always looking forward, it was never about him.
"He didn't like the limelight, he did everything for everybody else, it was for other people but I don't think sometimes he genuinely realised how much other people respected him."
