Harbour exercise to simulate boat fire and rescue

People are being advised not to be alarmed ahead of a "realistic" boat fire training exercise in Weymouth Harbour.

Emergency services are set to take part in the exercise in North Quay Marina from about 18:00 BST.

People can expect to see firefighters, harbour patrol vessels around the marina and simulated smoke from a vessel on Alpha Pontoon.

Weymouth Harbour said no live fire would be used, and temporary access restrictions would be in place around the area during the exercise, which is expected to last for about two hours.

A spokesperson said: "This exercise provides an important opportunity for emergency services and harbour staff to practise their response to a realistic maritime emergency.

"Thank you for your understanding as we work with our partners to strengthen emergency preparedness and ensure the safety of everyone using Weymouth Harbour."
