Man in court over deliberate fire at empty tenement building

A man has appeared in court charged with wilful fireraising after a blaze at an empty tenement building in the north of Glasgow.

Firefighters were sent to the scene in Stonyhurst Street in the Possilpark area of the city at about 15:50 on Sunday 6 September.

Graeme Moxey, 48, did not enter a plea at Glasgow Sheriff Court and was remanded in custody for further examination.

The tenement building had been empty for 20 years but had received funding to be renovated into affordable homes.

Prior to the fire, two protests had been held, one in July and another in early August.

It was claimed online that the flats, once refurbished, would be used to house migrants.
