Man charged after deliberate fire at tenement flats

A man has been arrested and charged following a deliberate fire at tenement flats in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to a fire that broke out in a fourth-floor flat of a building on Stonyhurst Street, Possilpark last Sunday.

The building had been empty for 20 years but had received funding to be renovated into affordable homes.

Police said a 48-year-old man was charged in connection with the fire and will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Prior to the fire, two protests had been held, one in July and another in early August, after it was claimed online that the flats, once refurbished, would be used to house migrants.
