Boy, 14, among eight more people arrested over Glasgow Green disorder

A 14-year-old boy is among a further eight people to have been charged in connection with a range of offences linked to disorder on Glasgow Green in July involving anti-immigration and anti-racism campaigners.

Six men, aged 22, 30, 30, 32, 42, and 53, and a 35-year-old woman have been charged with offences including assault, possession of an offensive weapon, hate crime and breach of the peace.

Police Scotland said a 14-year-old boy is also set to be reported to the Scottish Children's Reporter in connection with a hate crime offence.

All of the adults charged are scheduled to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.

It brings the total number of people charged in relation to the disorder on 25 July to 26.

Rival groups of demonstrators clashed in the park, with some later going on what police described as a rampage through the city.

Scuffles broke out between the two groups, with officers drawing their batons to contain protesters.

Further disorder took place later in the day in the city centre, leading to Oswald Street being sealed off by officers.

Police previously said weapons had been recovered on the day, indicating some protesters had come to cause "pre-meditated disorder, violence, and intimidation".

A total of 15 people were arrested in the immediate aftermath.

'Strong response'

A Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) has also been set up to encourage members of the public to submit information directly to officers and an investigation remains ongoing.

Ch Supt Stevie Dolan said: "I hope these arrests make it clear that anyone involved in anti-social behaviour, violence or disorder will be brought to justice.

"The disorder at this protest had a significant impact on communities, businesses and police officers and it will not be tolerated and anyone involved should expect to be identified and arrested.

"Any violence or disorder will get a strong response. There is no tolerance for people pretending to be part of a peaceful protest who are intent on causing disorder."
