The motorway's central safety barrier will be replaced between two junctions

A motorway will be closed overnight while its central safety barrier is replaced.

Work on the M5 between junctions 25 and 26 near Taunton in Somerset will begin on Monday and is not due to be completed until July.

National Highways said the barrier on the stretch of motorway had "reached the end of its life" and needed to be replaced.

Signed diversion routes will be in place via the A38 between Wellington and Taunton during full closures.

M5 lane closures

Between November and March, the M5 will be reduced to two lanes in both directions between junctions 25 and 26.

A 50mph speed limit will be in place and lane three will be closed for the safety of workers.

Between March and July, three narrow lanes will be running in both directions on that stretch, with the 50mph speed limit remaining in place.

M5 overnight closures

There will be lane closures overnight between 21:00 and 06:00 GMT on the affected stretch of motorway from Monday to Sunday next week.

On 9 November, the M5 will be closed southbound overnight.

Between 10-13 November and on 16 November, the M5 will be closed in both directions overnight.

On 17 November, the stretch of motorway will be closed northbound overnight.
