A serious crash has closed three lanes of the M6 in Greater Manchester, causing long delays for motorists.

National Highways said the lanes were closed northbound between junctions 25 for Bryn and junction 26 for the Orrell Interchange near Wigan.

Delays of up to 40 minutes were expected as traffic cameras showed long queues of traffic building up.

Meanwhile, two lanes have also shut on the southbound carriageway, from junction 27 for Standish to junction 26 after a separate accident.
