Wynne Hindle passed her maths GCSE on her fifth time of trying

A 52-year-old woman said she was "happy and shocked" after she passed her GCSE maths at the fifth time of asking.

Wynne Hindle, 52, from Sudbury, Suffolk, has been working toward her goal of becoming a teaching assistant at a primary school and needed this qualification.

She studied at West Suffolk College's adult learning centre in Bury St Edmunds and received her results at about 09:00 BST, achieving a grade 4.

"I just wanted to achieve something and I'm a resilient person," the mother-of-three and grandmother-of-one said of her journey.

"I find it hard to quit, so I just kept going.

"I was very happy and shocked to pass at the fifth attempt."

She added: "I'd like to say a very big thank you to the college and particularly to my tutor Rachel and Tom.

"My message to other adult learners is to keep at it."
