A man who had been reported missing checked in a bag containing £12,500 of drugs into the hotel where he was staying.

Michael Redmond, 41, handed over the holdall full of ketamine at Glasgow city centre's Holiday Inn Express on 28 April 2025.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how Redmond was reported as a missing person to police the previous day.

He pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of ketamine, with sentence deferred until next month pending background reports.

Redmond, from Ayr, had been assessed as being a "high risk" missing person.

Officers received information that he was inside the hotel and were told that Redmond had spent the night there.

Officers reviewed CCTV showing him checking out at 10:50 that morning.

Prosecutor Siobhan Currie said Redmond had handed over a bag to staff and asked them put it in the storage room to collect later.

She added: "Officers searched the bag as he remained a missing person and they wanted to see if it would provide information about his whereabouts."

Inside the bag, officers found 500 grams of ketamine with a maximum value of £12,500.

Redmond was traced and arrested in the city's Buchanan Street on 29 April 2025.

He was interviewed and replied "no comment" to all questions.

Sheriff Patrick Hughes continued Redmond's bail until sentencing.
