Jersey's government is looking for a contractor to work on a memorial garden for the people who lost their lives in an explosion in 2022.

It said demolition and groundwork for the Haut du Mont site in St Helier had already begun, with the families of the 10 people who died helping shape the design.

The garden, which will be where flats once stood on Pier Road, would include favourite flowers, seating, paths and a small space for children, officials said.

The government said it was seeking a "suitably experienced contractor" to deliver the project.

"The project will create a dignified, inclusive and accessible garden space to honour the lives lost in the Haut du Mont tragedy," it said.

The government added the space would provide a "place for reflection and remembrance for the local community and visitors to the island".

The aim is to open the garden in December, in time for the fourth anniversary of the blast.
