The Dumaresq Street spaces will be available for parking 24 hours a day

A 12-month trial of new accessible minibus parking spaces has been launched in St Helier.

The two new spaces on Dumaresq Street will be available for parking 24 hours a day for seven days a week and are in addition to the existing regular blue badge spaces.

The two new spaces on Beresford Street, near West's Centre, will be available from 11:00 to 18:00 each day.

The government said the spaces had to be moved because vehicles were no longer allowed to access the bottom of New Street after 10:00 since the pedestrian precinct on King Street was created.

The Infrastructure and Environment Department said the new parking spaces would be easier for large vehicles to access than New Street, which involved minibuses turning around and exiting via Burrard Street.

It said due to the introduction of the new parking spaces, those in New Street would not be available and the existing signage would be removed and markings blacked out in due course.
