Road closure as roundabout upgrade work continues

Motorists will face a six-week road closure as work continues to upgrade a busy roundabout in Hull.

Holwell Road, from the Wawne Road/Bude Road roundabout to the Bransholme/Honiton Road roundabout, will be closed southbound from 5 October.

Hull City Council said the work would allow contractors to widen the carriageway and improve traffic flows at the Kingswood roundabout.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo said: "We fully appreciate how frustrating roadworks can be, but these improvements are an investment in Kingswood's future and will make sure that the area can meet any future demand placed on the network."

Wawne Road (East), which has been closed, will reopen to traffic ahead of the partial closure on Holwell Road.

There will be a diversion route via Wawne Road (East) and Honiton Road.

Northbound traffic will not be affected but, once the southbound works are completed, there will be a partial closure northbound to finish the works.

The council said the northbound works are expected to take place in mid November.

Ieronimo said: "As the area continues to grow, it's vitally important that we improve the flow of traffic on Kingswood's roads and ensure that they have the necessary capacity to keep people moving freely and safely."

He added: "I'd like to thank residents, businesses and everyone travelling through this area for their continued patience while these works are carried out.

"I'd also encourage motorists and the travelling public to plan ahead and allow a little extra time for their journeys while this phase of works is completed."
