Lee Ryan seeks Supreme Court appeal over assault

Blue star Lee Ryan is planning a Supreme Court challenge after losing previous appeals over his conviction for racially aggravated assault on a flight attendant, a court heard.

Ryan, 43, had drunk a bottle of port before a British Airways flight from Glasgow to London City Airport in July 2022 and was slurring his words and staggering around, his trial heard.

After being refused more alcohol on the plane and told to return to his seat, Ryan made comments about the cabin crew member's looks and grabbed her wrists.

He was given a 12-month suspended prison sentence at Isleworth Crown Court in September 2023. He unsuccessfully appealed against his convictions at the Crown Court and High Court.

On Friday, his barrister Thom Dyke told Isleworth Crown Court the pop star is making an "application for legal appeal to the Supreme Court".

Dyke said the deadline for that application was 11 August, and they expected an answer on a "point of law" within the next two months.

Ryan was not in attendance for the short hearing.

If the singer is unsuccessful in his Supreme Court appeal, he will be sentenced again at Isleworth Crown Court.
