Loganair to axe Isle of Man-London City route

Flights between the Isle of Man and London City Airport will come to an end next month.

Loganair will withdraw the route from 23 October following a review.

From 26 October, the airline will increase its weekday London Heathrow service to two return flights per day.

Loganair said the change was about aligning its services "with customer demand".

Loganair will run 11 return flights a week between the island and Heathrow.

A Sunday evening service will continue, but the Saturday Heathrow flight will no longer operate.

A Loganair spokesperson said: "We understand this change may be disappointing for some customers and have contacted those affected directly with alternative flights to London Heathrow."

The airline said Heathrow would give passengers access to "domestic and international destinations through one of the world's leading hub airports".

Loganair said it recognised London City had been "a convenient option for some passengers" but that the new timetable would offer "a more consistent weekday timetable and significantly greater opportunities for onward connections".

It added that, together with its existing London Gatwick services, passengers would "continue to have a strong choice of services to London throughout the week".

Isle of Man Airport said the new timetable would give passengers "the flexibility to fly to London and return home the same day", whether for business, a city break, visiting family and friends, or connecting onwards through Loganair's partner airlines.

The Isle of Man Government has previously underwritten Loganair's London services, though financial details of the arrangement have not been disclosed.

BBC Isle of Man has asked the government whether that support would now apply to the expanded Heathrow route.
