A 13-year-old boy has been seriously injured as his electric scooter hit a what police believe was a parked car.

Merseyside Police said the boy was hurt at about 13:35 BST when he crashed at the junction of Oakfield Road and Hawkesworth Street, Liverpool.

The force said the boy had been taken to hospital and officers remained in the area carrying out inquires and checking for CCTV footage to establish what happened.

Road closures are in place between the junctions of Oakfield Road and Kemp Avenue, and Oakfield Road and St Domingo Vale.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
