Pop-up nature trail aims to boost active travel

A pop-up nature walk is being launched in a bid to encourage active travel.

The Bugs and Blooms Trail will run in Chertsey, Surrey, from Monday until 13 September and feature activities and three new "parklets".

According to Surrey Council, parklets are temporary seating areas where people can enjoy nature. The Active Travel England-funded project will include work from artists and children.

Surrey council's highways member, Matt Furniss, said: "We are committed to reducing the number of cars on roads in Surrey, and this new pop-up pilot is one of the innovative ways we are working with partners to make active travel more enjoyable."

A spokesperson added: "The parklets include colourful plants that support bees, butterflies and other wildlife.

"Some plants are edible or sensory, giving children more opportunities to connect with nature."

The parklets will be at Pycroft Road/Chilsey Green Road; Chilsey Green Road/Brookside and Free Prae Road.
