A wildfire has broken out at Whitmoor Common, near Guildford, days after fire crews were called to a separate blaze at the same nature reserve.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service posted on social media that it was called to the incident on Salt Box Road, Worplesdon, at about 14:25 BST.

Three fire engines, a water carrier and specialist wildfire vehicles were sent to the scene, where the blaze covered an area of about 50m by 60m.

Whitmoor Common, a 166-hectare Site of Special Scientific Interest, was also affected by a wildfire last week.

Ten fire appliances were sent to that incident, which prompted warnings about the risk of wildfires during hot and dry weather.

Firefighters remain at the scene of the latest blaze.

People living nearby have been advised to keep windows and doors closed, while members of the public are also being urged to avoid the area.
