Repairs to car-sized sinkhole restart after delay
Tom Jackson/BBCWork has restarted to repair a sinkhole the size of a family car, more than a month after it first appeared.
The hole on Milton Road in Cambridge opened up on 22 June and was estimated to be up to 3m (10ft) deep.
Cambridgeshire County Council said repairs had been delayed by a damaged sewer and the road was due to reopen on 5 August.
An Anglian Water spokesperson said the sewer had been fixed and a specialist was carrying out "further assessment" to find out what had caused the sinkhole.
Tom Jackson/BBCPart of the road, a main route between the city centre and the A14, has been closed in both directions between Hurst Park Avenue and the Elizabeth Way roundabout for three weeks.
In 2024, a multi-million redevelopment of the road was completed. It included installing pedestrian crossings and a cycle lane.
The county council said the hole would be filled in with concrete, poured in gradually to allow it to set.
