Two teenagers have died in a single-vehicle car crash in woodland in Essex.

Police said they were called at 22:40 BST on Sunday to reports that a car had left the B172 near Theydon Bois and ended up in a wooded area.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy, and a 19-year-old passenger were both treated by ambulance staff, but were later pronounced dead.

Det Insp Mark Fraser, of Essex Police, appealed for any witnesses who were on the B172 or Coppice Row to get in touch.

"Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the two people who have very sadly died," he said.
