Parts of the M11 and M25 were shut in Essex due to "emergency road repairs", National Highways has said.

Two lanes of the M25 were closed anticlockwise at junction 27, and there were delays of up to 90 minutes and 11 miles of congestion, the agency added.

The southbound M11 link road to the M25 at junction six is fully closed.

Drivers have been urged to check their journey before leaving.

National Highways said contractors had been on site overnight to carry out repairs; however, an additional defect was found.

There is no estimated time for repairs to be completed, the agency said.
