West Yorkshire PoliceAn 18-year-old who fatally stabbed another teenager in the heart in a violent disturbance during the Eid celebrations in Bradford has been found guilty of murder.
Mohammed Ibrahim Mehmood chased 19-year-old Junaid Khan and knifed him after he fell over on Newton Street in the West Bowling area on 6 June 2025 as two groups of Asian men clashed.
Mehmood, of Woodroyd Road, Bradford, denied murder but was convicted at Bradford Crown Court on Friday. He was also convicted of assault, possessing a bladed article and violent disorder.
Luqmaan Rehman, 28, and his 27-year-old brother Hamza, both of Birch Lane, Bradford, were cleared of murder or manslaughter, but found guilty of violent disorder.
A fourth man, Mohammed Tayyub, 18, of Birmingham, was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm after Khan was attacked on 3 June 2025.
All those convicted are due to be sentenced at a later date.
Prosecutor Rupert Doswell KC told the jury that on the day of the murder police were alerted by members of the public about the disturbance involving men armed with bricks and knives.
"Tragically, shortly after 2:30 that afternoon one of the young men involved Junaid Khan, was stabbed to death," he told the court.
"He was just 19 years old at the time."
Despite the efforts of a nurse, a member of the public and paramedics the victim died at the scene, the court heard.
Doswell said: "In relation to Ibrahim Mehmood there will be no dispute in this case that armed with a knife he stabbed Junaid Khan, thereby causing his death.
FAMILY HANDOUTHe said that "regardless of how Junaid Khan may have acted... prior to being stabbed he was running away from Ibrahim Mehmood for his life".
He added: "Ibrahim Mehmood was not acting to defend himself but actively pursuing him chasing him down the road."
Mehmood was cleared of attempted murder and wounding with intent in relation to a second man, but was convicted of assault and violent disorder offences.
Det Ch Insp Dan Bates, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: "This serious incident occurred on Eid, at a time when many people in the community were attending mosque.
"It was a senseless act of violence in which a young man tragically lost his life, leaving a family devastated.
"While these convictions cannot bring Junaid back, I hope they offer some measure of comfort to his family and friends. Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time."
