Holidaymakers face disruption over possible strike at Glasgow Airport

Holidaymakers using one of Scotland's busiest airports could face disruption over the summer after workers were balloted for strike action.

About 170 workers with the ICTS firm have rejected a pay offer from the company, with the Unite trade union saying the offer was unacceptable. The staff involved deal with passengers directly in security search areas and process them for flights.

The union said if strike action was given the go-ahead it could take place during the World Cup - when many Scots are expected to travel to the USA - and then when the Commonwealth Games are held in Glasgow.

The ballot is now under way and will close on 21 May.

A Glasgow Airport spokesperson said it was aware of talks between ICTS and the union and was keen to "ensure that this dialogue results in a positive resolution."

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham claimed that ICTS had behaved with a cavalier attitude so far.

She added: "Unite has warned ICTS that our members at Glasgow airport deserve a better pay offer than what is currently on the table.

"ICTS is a highly profitable company that can fully afford to make a decent pay offer. The company's cavalier attitude and failure to make a far pay offer has created this dispute."

ICTS has been asked for comment.
