Rubbish-filled wagon removed after five months
BBCA huge HGV wagon filled with rubbish has been removed after being left in a lay-by for five months.
The wagon appeared to be so full of debris - including carpet, wood, bottles and cans - it was bulging on one side and spilling onto the closed footpath on the A59 close to BAE Systems in Samlesbury, Lancashire.
Last month, Lancashire County Council and Ribble Valley Borough Council said they would work together to resolve the issue.
Ribble Valley Borough Council now says the trailer has been taken away from the site by a local contractor.
A spokesman said: "We've been working with Lancashire County Council to resolve this matter and we're pleased to announce that we've been able to bring this unacceptable situation to a close.
"A local company towed the vehicle off-site where the rubbish can be safely removed without any disruption to a busy route.
"This has been a long and complex situation but we're sure that people who passed this eyesore will be glad to see the back of it.
"This was a despicable act of criminal fly-tipping and investigations will continue to try and find who is responsible and, if possible, take legal action against them."
A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: "This has been a complex and unusual case involving a number of agencies and Lancashire County Council has supported work to secure a resolution throughout.
"We are pleased that the trailer has now been removed."
