Doorcam catches man dumping rubbish in skip
Rossendale CouncilA man who was caught on a doorbell camera dumping bags of rubbish into a skip which had been hired for DIY work has been fined £1,000.
A resident in Bacup had reported two men placed bags of waste into the skip late at about 20:50 BST on 19 April, Rossendale Council said.
Council enforcement officers traced one man, aged 36, from Hoyle Street, Bacup, who admitted fly-tipping and received a fixed penalty fine.
Councillor Adrian Lythgoe said fly tipping caused "real frustration for our residents", adding: "We're grateful to the householder for providing clear evidence."
The council said the doorbell camera alerted the householder, and on checking outside, he found two men putting bin bags into the skip.
He confronted and photographed them and their vehicle, and the men removed the bags and returned to their car.
After the resident shared the incident on social media, council enforcement officers investigated and found the car's registered keeper in Rochdale which led to the officers interviewing the man from Bacup.
He admitted transporting the bags in his car while looking for somewhere to dispose of them, and dumping them into the skip when he saw it on the roadside.
He confirmed he had removed them when challenged.
