An investigation is under way into the cause of a fire at a flat on the 17th floor of a 22-storey tower block in east London.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to Blackwall Way in Poplar at around 04:30 BST. Half of the two-room flat and balcony was damaged in the blaze.

A woman and one child left the residence before firefighters arrived and a further 50 people left the building before the brigade arrived on scene and are currently at a rest centre.

The fire was "under control" by around 06:40, the brigade said.
