Man in his 80s dies in Wood Green house fire

A man in his 80s has died in a house fire in north London.

Emergency services were called to the terraced property in Granville Road, Wood Green, at 22:15 BST on Saturday.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said one woman left the house before the brigade arrived, but the man died at the scene.

The first floor and half of the roof of the two-storey building was destroyed, the brigade said. The cause of the blaze, which was brought under control by 23:30, is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police and LFB.

A police spokesperson said: "Sadly, a man in his 80s died at the scene.

"His next of kin have been informed and continue to be supported.

"Specialist Met officers are currently supporting the London Fire Brigade to investigate the circumstances around the fire."
