Beach closure as Motocross circuit returns
GettyA stretch of beach at a seaside resort is set to close for the weekend as its sands are transformed into a motocross race circuit.
Weymouth Beach Motocross will take place along about a mile (1.6km) of beach from the Pavilion end of the Dorset town's beach to the Jubilee Clock.
The circuit, with a series of ramps, will be built by diggers on Saturday morning ready for race day on Sunday. The beach will be cordoned off from the Pavilion steps to the Jubilee Clock from 08:00 (BST) Saturday until about 20:00 Sunday.
Throughout Saturday afternoon there will be motocross demonstrations on the beach. On Sunday practicing starts from 11:30 with the main competitive beach racing from 13:00.
Getty ImagesWeymouth Town Council said the free annual event is expected to attract more than 25,000 spectators.
Organised by the Weymouth & Portland Lions Club alongside the Purbeck Motorcycle Club, the event raises money for local charities through raffles and donations.
A classic car and motorcycle display is also expected to take place near the Jubilee Clock on Sunday.
