Major city bridge to close for eight weeks
Hull City CouncilA bridge linking east and west Hull is set to be closed for eight weeks, the city council has announced.
Drypool Bridge will shut to all vehicles and pedestrians from 27 May as part of a major repair and strengthening programme.
It follows an initial closure between September and November, which was lifted to allow the bridge to remain open during the busy Christmas period.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: "To ensure residents had plenty of notice, we announced last year our intention to close the bridge in late May 2026, and we are now able to confirm specific dates."
He added: "We understand that another full closure will cause disruption, which is why we've worked hard to keep the bridge open whenever possible and only closing it when absolutely necessary."
The authority previously said the work was part of a wider investment in Hull's transport infrastructure.
Ieronimo added: "This isn't just about repairs. It's about protecting the city centre economy, preserving our heritage and investing in Hull's future."
Hull City Council said general traffic would need to divert around the area via Wilberforce Drive, George Street and vice versa, while the work takes place.
They added that bus routes would be amended to accommodate the work, which includes removing the old road surfacing and installing new waterproofing.
