A major bridge linking east and west Hull has reopened after two months of "vital repairs".

Drypool Bridge closed to all vehicles and pedestrians in May as part of a major repair and strengthening programme.

It followed an initial closure between September and November, with work being paused to allow the bridge to open during the busy Christmas period.

The latest closure was lifted earlier, with some traffic management remaining in place, Hull City Council said.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: "I am pleased that this latest phase of work has come to an end on time.

"We recognise the disruption that closing such a key route has caused, but these repairs are essential to safeguard the long-term future of the bridge."

The council also confirmed highway improvement works on Alfred Gelder Street have also been completed.
