Rapist jailed after 'campaign of violence'

A "dangerous" man who carried out a "campaign of violence" and subjected a woman to years of physical and sexual abuse has been jailed for 19 years.

Martin Lloyd, 39, attacked the woman with weapons including a machete, chains and a baseball bat resulting in a broken nose and leg injuries, West Midlands Police said.

He also attacked and raped her, two days after the victim had had surgery and left a "footprint on her face" in another attack, the force said.

Lloyd, of no fixed address, was convicted of three counts of rape, two counts of causing Actual Bodily Harm and using controlling and coercive behaviour, following a trial.

Lloyd was arrested and charged with several offences after the woman escaped and contacted police in October to tell them about her years of abuse.

At Birmingham Crown Court on Monday, he was sentenced to 19 years in prison and six years on extended licence, police said.

Det Con Stephen Dunford said Lloyd was a "dangerous individual" with a long history of domestic abuse convictions against several women and had "never shown any remorse for his actions".

"We have provided the woman with support since she reported the abuse, and we commend her bravery in coming forward to share about her horrifying experiences," he added.
