Ozzy Day: All the times and events celebrating the Prince of Darkness

Exactly a year after his death, Birmingham will salute the self-styled Prince of Darkness with scores of events to honour one of the city's most famous sons.

Ozzy Day is a free celebration of the Black Sabbath frontman, who died on 22 July 2025, to recognise his lifelong connection to the city, where he grew up and helped pioneer heavy metal.

On Wednesday, visitors will be able to explore landmarks linked to the Aston-born musician, enjoy live performances, look at exhibitions dedicated to his career and share memories of the rock icon.

Event organisers are encouraging fans from across the UK and the world to join in the celebrations. Here are all the details of what to look out for.

Bostin Brass, the Birmingham band that performed during Ozzy Osbourne's funeral procession through the city last year, will return for a series of pop-up performances featuring music by Black Sabbath and the Prince of Darkness' hugely successful solo career.

The five-piece brass band will appear at Birmingham New Street station at 08:30 BST before performing outside Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery at 10:00, outside Selfridges in the Bullring at 11:30, at the Black Sabbath Bench at 12:45 and in Martineau Place at 15:00.

The performances are designed to surprise visitors throughout the day while celebrating the music that made Ozzy and Black Sabbath global stars.

Fans are invited to contribute their own memories of Osbourne at Birmingham New Street station.

Birmingham Music Archive will collect stories, reflections and personal tributes in a commemorative guestbook, creating a lasting record of the first Ozzy Day and the impact the singer had on Birmingham and music fans around the world.

Visitors will also be able to have free Polaroid photographs taken with a specially dressed Ozzy the Bull on the station concourse, between 11:00 and 14:00 BST and again from 15:00 until 18:00.

Across the city, organisers say they hope people will come together to celebrate not only Ozzy's music but also his enduring pride in his hometown.

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) will be setting up at the Bullring at lunchtime for a special Ozzy-themed performance.

The acclaimed orchestra is no stranger to playing the legend's hits, having paid tribute to him in a hastily-arranged performance at New Street Station the day after his death last year.

The musicians asked their friends at Birmingham Royal Ballet to help provide the music, which was then played to hundreds of commuters.

The CBSO will be performing at the shopping centre at 12:15.

Hundreds of thousands of people have already visited the Ozzy Osbourne: Working Class Hero exhibition at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery – and it would be a very special occasion to visit on the anniversary of his death.

It now includes Ozzy's iconic throne from Villa Park last year, when he was joined by a pantheon of rock stars who owe him their career, for Black Sabbath's final show.

It is open from 10:00 to 17:00. The exhibition is to remain in place until September.

There is also the Back To The Beginning photo exhibition in Grand Central, above New Street Station and next to Foyles bookshop, which will also be in place across the summer.

Stretch those legs and take part in the Black Sabbath trail, taking in spots all around the city.

Maps are available at Birmingham Library and handed out at New Street Station.

The trail includes the Black Sabbath bench on Broad Street, the museum's exhibition, the mural on Navigation Street, Ozzy the Bull, The Crown pub - where the pre-Sabbath unknowns Earth played their first gig in 1969 - as well as the Aston Villa store and Selfridges, which have some special merch.

Independently, an Ozzy Walk has been organised, raising money for the homeless, from Villa Park to the Black Sabbath bench. It starts at 10:00 from the mural next to the Holte pub, on Trinity Road, next to the stadium.
