Festival visitors will be encouraged to go potty
Julie SandersA life-size gorilla in a skirt, Mary Poppins and a puffin with yellow boots are among the exhibits set to feature at the 2026 Flamborough Flowerpot Festival.
The festival, which is in its fifth year, involves local residents and groups making models using plant pots and displaying them on a trail around the coastal village, which is near Bridlington, East Yorkshire.
Everyone is encouraged to "go potty" during the event, which will run throughout June, organisers said.
Festival chair Ian Wood said it promised to be quite a spectacle.
He said the first festival, which was held in 2022, was inspired by a similar event in Settle, North Yorkshire.
"So, we started our own and it's gone from strength to strength," he said.
"We have an online digital map, which has had over 50,000 views over the last four years, including from people as far away as Australia."
Wood added that there had been a great response to the free workshops ahead of the festival offering practical help and materials to participants, with children coming up with some fantastic designs.
In previous years, the festival has included full-size plant pot versions of Elvis, King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Wood said new exhibits this year would include "Mrs Gorilla in a skirt" – to partner a male plant pot version from last year – as well a puffin in yellow boots in a nod to the RNLI.
"We've got all sorts this year, including Minions made by local children," he added.
As for his own creation, he said he had gone for something more traditional – Father Christmas, Mrs Christmas, elves and the Grinch.
