Eleven drivers were caught filming the aftermath of a serious crash

Drivers who filmed the aftermath of a serious crash involving three lorries have been fined up to £1,054 each.

The collision happened on the westbound A14 near Cranford, Northamptonshire, on the morning of 15 September last year.

Eleven drivers were given six points on their licence and fines ranged from £232 up to £1,054, said the county's force.

It said it hoped the case would encourage people to make "better decisions" when on the road.

One of the lorry drivers became trapped in his cab following the crash and was taken to hospital with a serious leg injury. The other two drivers were uninjured.

Eleven eyewitnesses - 10 men and one woman - were seen filming emergency services at the scene on their phones, as they drove along the eastbound carriageway.

Police issued prosecution notices in the days that followed.

PC James Condon, from Northamptonshire Police's roads team, said: "Filming any road traffic collision when you are driving is not only dangerous, but also highly insensitive, so I am pleased to see these people prosecuted.

"I know we live in a world where some people want to film everything and post it on social media, but drivers, or indeed their passengers, should take a moment to think about those involved in that collision, along with their family and friends."
