Drivers are facing a second day of long delays after a second crash on the M1

A crash on the M1 caused a diesel spillage that led to the motorway closing for a second consecutive day.

National Highways said all lanes had reopened following an earlier closure southbound between junctions 17 for the M45 and 16 for the A45 Daventry.

It said there were "no significant delays on the approach" after clean-up crews finished their work.

A full closure was in place between 05:15 and 06:05 BST on Thursday, leading to three miles (5km) of congestion.

The incident happened just hours after the road reopened, following the northbound carriageway's closure for more than 24 hours on Wednesday.
