Bangor security alert ends after controlled explosion

A security alert in the Ward Park area of Bangor has ended after a controlled explosion was carried out on what is suspected to have been an historic munition.

The suspicious device was reported to police at about 17:15 BST on Friday.

Officers and specialist teams carried out a controlled explosion and the item was then taken away for forensic examination.

Police said cordons have been lifted and encouraged anyone with information to contact them.
