A woman has been charged with perverting the course of justice after a man died from a single gunshot wound earlier this year.

Peter Phillips, 47, was found dead at Ayton Crescent in Eston, near Middlesbrough, on the night of 23 May.

Rachel Britton, 32, of South Bank, was charged with perverting the course of justice and had been bailed to appear in court on Tuesday, Cleveland Police said.

Three people who were previously charged with murder remained in custody until their next court appearance, officers added.

The two 39-year-old men and 38-year-old woman appeared at Teesside Crown Court on 29 May.

Four others who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, a 55-year-old man and three women aged 36, 50 and 59, remained on bail, police said.
