Four people have been taken to hospital after a BMW i3 crashed into five other vehicles, police have said.

Emergency services were called to Warrington Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield after the BMW driver suffered a suspected medical episode at about 13:00 BST and hit the other vehicles, said Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Two drivers and two passengers were taken to hospital, including an 80-year-old woman who the force said "remained in a life-threatening condition".

Officers from GMP's serious collision investigation unit are urging anyone with information to contact them, especially if they have dashcam footage or witnessed the crash.

A GMP spokesman said a man in his 70s and another woman were being treated for "serious but not life-threatening" injuries.

A man in his 80s is also being treated for minor injuries.
